Thinking About Starting Your Own Business? You Should!

Research from the Centre for Entrepreneurs (CFE) has shown that despite improvement in the economy and more available jobs, people are still starting their own businesses. If you're thinking about going into business for yourself, now's the time!

The CFE states that these statistics indicate a "cultural shift" in the UK economy, as people aren't just starting their own businesses because they can't find jobs anymore—they're starting them because it's something they want to do. People are pursuing their passions and enjoying the flexibility that the current global economy affords them.

BusinessZone writes that "the research notes the wider societal trends of increased flexible working hours, and greater professional and personal autonomy that happened after financial crisis, arguing this shows entrepreneurship is becoming ingrained in the UK’s business culture."

Have you thought about starting your own business? If so, right now is a great time to do it, precisely because so many other people are taking the plunge into self-employment as well. Although it might seem like an increase in startups will mean more competition for your company, it's important to remember that this increase shows a willingness on behalf of the UK economy to take small businesses seriously, and that flexible employment options are working.

Of course, it takes more than a dream to start a business—you'll need a business plan. And the tools to keep everything organised. And, of course, some sort of way to accept credit and debit card payments. But all of that comes later. What you need first is the drive to take a risk and start your own business.
